Youth Media Lab Cameroun is a flagship youth empowerment and digital entrepreneurship initiative of the Vicky Ebude Foundation (VICEF), designed to prepare young people for the opportunities of the digital economy while creating practical pathways into employment, entrepreneurship and international business.
With the institutional support of the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education (MINJEC) and the Ministry of External Relations (MINREX) of Cameroon, the initiative brings together Cameroonian and Italian expertise, institutions, universities and cooperative-sector partners to create a sustainable ecosystem for youth innovation and enterprise.
Through Youth Media Lab, VICEF seeks to move beyond conventional approaches to youth development by creating an environment where young people can acquire practical skills, transform ideas into viable enterprises and establish connections with professional and international markets.
Youth Media Lab is built around a simple principle: Learn. Innovate. Create. Trade. Grow.
The programme provides young people with practical training in digital technologies, media production, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, communication, entrepreneurship and cooperative management. These skills are intended to respond directly to the changing demands of the modern economy and to equip participants with knowledge that can be applied in professional and commercial environments.
However, training is only the beginning. Youth Media Lab is designed to help participants transform their knowledge into professional services, businesses, employment and international market opportunities. Rather than ending when a training session is completed, the programme creates a pathway through which young people can continue developing their ideas, building professional identities, establishing businesses and connecting with potential clients, partners and markets.
Youth Media Lab aims to train more than 100 young people every year while maintaining a strong commitment to inclusion, with at least 40 percent female participation.
The programme is intended to reach graduates and students, job seekers, young entrepreneurs, digital creators and innovators, young women, persons with disabilities and young people from rural communities. By bringing together participants with different backgrounds and experiences, Youth Media Lab seeks to create an inclusive environment in which digital knowledge, entrepreneurship and innovation can become accessible pathways to economic opportunity.
The programme recognizes that young people do not all begin from the same position. For this reason, its approach is designed not only to develop technical skills, but also to create opportunities for participants to discover how those skills can be applied to real economic challenges.
Youth Media Lab creates a pathway through which participants can transform acquired knowledge into sustainable professional and commercial opportunities.
Young people who develop expertise in digital marketing, social media management, artificial intelligence, content creation and communication can progress into digital professional careers and service-based opportunities. Others may pursue careers and businesses within the creative economy, using skills in video production, photography, broadcasting and digital storytelling to build independent professional practices.
The programme also creates opportunities for freelancing and professional service provision, allowing participants to serve small and medium-sized enterprises, NGOs, institutions and international clients. For young innovators with entrepreneurial ambitions, Youth Media Lab provides a foundation from which ideas can be developed into technology-driven products, services and start-ups.
The cooperative dimension of the programme further encourages young people to work collectively and establish sustainable enterprises based on shared knowledge, resources and opportunities. At the same time, its international orientation creates a pathway toward professional relationships with companies, investors, distributors and networks across Italy and Africa.
Youth Media Lab Cameroun goes beyond preparing young people for opportunities that already exist. The programme is also designed to create, develop and maintain professional enterprises and organizations powered by young people, providing graduates and professionally trained participants with practical environments in which they can apply their skills, gain experience, build careers and contribute to the growth of sustainable businesses.
Through this model, Youth Media Lab creates a bridge between training and real-world enterprise. Young professionals emerging from the programme can be integrated into organizations operating across areas such as digital marketing, media, communications, technology, creative production, entrepreneurship and other emerging sectors. These organizations provide practical platforms through which young people can transition from acquiring skills to exercising them professionally.
One example of this enterprise ecosystem is Square Marketing Group S.A., a professional marketing and communications company operating within the Youth Media Lab framework. The company provides a practical environment where professionally trained young people can apply their expertise, develop professional experience and participate in real commercial projects.
The relationship creates a continuous cycle in which Youth Media Lab develops talent, the enterprises provide opportunities for that talent to operate and grow, and the resulting professional experience contributes to the development of stronger businesses and new economic opportunities for young people.
In this way, the programme seeks to create an ecosystem in which young people are not only trained for the labour market, but become active participants in building the organizations, businesses and professional networks that shape that market.
One of the programme's most ambitious long-term components is the development of an Italy–CEMAC Youth Business Route.
This initiative is intended to progressively create opportunities for trained young entrepreneurs to participate in international business activities including import and export, sourcing and procurement, logistics, freight and warehousing, franchising, distribution chains, digital commerce and business representation.
The initial focus will be on strengthening the Italy–Cameroon business corridor, before progressively expanding into the wider CEMAC market. Through this approach, Youth Media Lab seeks to establish a practical route through which young people can move from training to incubation, from incubation to business, from business to trade, from trade to investment, and ultimately from investment to job creation.
The broader vision is to connect young African entrepreneurs with Italian businesses, products, technologies, expertise and distribution networks while simultaneously opening African markets to innovative Italian enterprises.
In this way, Youth Media Lab becomes more than a youth development programme. It becomes a platform for international economic cooperation in which young people can participate directly in the creation of new commercial relationships between Africa and Europe.
At the heart of Youth Media Lab is the development of practical skills that young people can apply immediately in professional and entrepreneurial environments.
The programme places particular emphasis on digital technologies, media, communication, entrepreneurship and cooperative management. By combining technical knowledge with business-oriented thinking, participants are encouraged to understand not only how to use digital tools, but also how those tools can create value, solve problems and generate income.
The objective is to help young people become adaptable professionals who can respond to changing technologies and emerging economic opportunities.
Another central dimension of Youth Media Lab is the integration of innovation and emerging technologies into its curriculum.
The programme recognizes the growing importance of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and digital solutions in shaping the future of work and enterprise. Participants are therefore encouraged to explore how new technologies can be applied to communication, business development, creative production and the delivery of professional services.
By exposing young people to emerging technological possibilities, Youth Media Lab seeks to cultivate a culture in which innovation is not simply understood as technological advancement, but as the ability to identify problems and develop practical solutions that create economic and social value.
Youth Media Lab places strong emphasis on cooperation as a means of creating sustainable opportunities for young people.
Through teamwork, cooperative enterprise and professional networks, participants are encouraged to understand the value of building businesses collectively. Cooperation can provide young entrepreneurs with access to shared knowledge, complementary skills, resources and professional relationships that may otherwise be difficult to obtain individually.
This approach is particularly important within the programme's international dimension, where strong networks between young entrepreneurs, institutions, businesses and cooperative organizations can create new opportunities for collaboration and trade.
Youth Media Lab seeks to help young people move beyond ideas and toward implementation.
The programme encourages participants to transform their knowledge, creativity and entrepreneurial ambitions into sustainable businesses and employment opportunities. Whether through freelancing, creative enterprises, technology-driven start-ups, digital services or cooperative ventures, participants are encouraged to view their skills as potential foundations for economic activity.
The ultimate objective is not simply to prepare young people to compete for existing jobs, but to equip them with the capacity to create professional opportunities for themselves and, eventually, for others.
The international dimension of Youth Media Lab is central to its long-term vision. By building commercial and professional bridges between Italy, Cameroon and the wider CEMAC region, the programme seeks to create opportunities for young entrepreneurs to participate in international markets. This includes developing relationships around trade, procurement, distribution, digital commerce, logistics, franchising and business representation.
The Italy–Cameroon corridor provides the initial foundation for this ambition. As the initiative develops, the vision is to extend these relationships across the broader CEMAC market, creating an increasingly connected environment for youth-led enterprise and international business.
Youth Media Lab is built around a growing network of institutional, academic, cooperative and private-sector partners.
The initiative benefits from the institutional support of the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education and the Ministry of External Relations of Cameroon, alongside partnerships and collaboration with Italian and Cameroonian actors including Confcooperative FVG, Legacoop FVG, Università degli Studi di Udine, IAL FVG, ENAIP FVG and IRES FVG, as well as other development, professional and private-sector partners.
These relationships provide access to knowledge, training, cooperative expertise, innovation, professional networks and international opportunities. They also strengthen the programme's ability to connect youth development with the wider economic and institutional environment required for sustainable enterprise.
Through these partnerships, Youth Media Lab brings together different forms of expertise and experience to create a platform capable of supporting young people beyond the classroom and into the professional and commercial world.
Youth Media Lab trains more than 100 young people every year while maintaining a target of at least 40 percent female participation. Through this continuous investment in young people's skills and capabilities, the programme seeks to increase digital employability and create new opportunities for freelance work, entrepreneurship and employment.
The initiative also aims to contribute to the creation and strengthening of youth-led businesses, start-ups and cooperatives. By connecting these enterprises with professional networks and international markets, Youth Media Lab seeks to increase the participation of young people in international trade and strengthen economic links between Italy and Cameroon.
Over time, the programme is expected to contribute to the progressive expansion of youth-led businesses into the wider CEMAC market while helping build a stronger ecosystem for youth innovation, entrepreneurship and international economic cooperation.
Youth Media Lab Cameroun is designed to become a long-term platform for youth innovation, enterprise and international economic cooperation.
VICEF's ambition is to contribute to the emergence of a generation of young people who do not only seek employment, but are equipped to create businesses, create jobs and connect markets.
The programme represents a vision of youth empowerment in which education is connected directly to opportunity, entrepreneurship is connected to markets, and innovation is connected to economic development.
At the centre of this vision is a simple transformation: from a young person with an idea to an entrepreneur with a market.
